There is an endless demand for actors in BDSM films and good ones can go from one BDSM film company to the next, making as many films as they wish.

What makes a good BDSM film actor?

You need to be aged between 18 and 48 and happy to show your face on film. People wearing hoods are very uninteresting to watch in films, because the whole business of erotic interaction requires that you see someone’s expression. You never see a vanilla porn film with the participants faces hidden, and neither should this happen in a BDSM film. You also need to be ok with US Compliance rules.

These require you to hold your passport open in front of you, while reading some lines onto film saying that you are over 18 and have done this willingly. This does not form part of the actual film, it is just done so that the film producer has physical evidence that you are not under age and were not coerced into participating in the film.

You will also need to sign a model release.

What is needed apart from that?

Well, if you had previous experience in acting in BDSM films this is very useful, as is (in the case of male actors) the ability to get an erection when necessary.

BDSM films may not involve the submissive male getting much in the way of sex, but he still needs to look as if he is enjoying himself. If necessary we will stop so that you can disappear off to the bathroom to get back in the mood.

You will also need to be able to remember a few basic lines and (even more importantly) be able to react physically to what is going on.

In the case of subs, just lying there looking relaxed and happy about being dommed isn’t interesting visually, you need to interact with the female dom.

If she is supposed to be doing something to you against your will, you need to look as if you are resisting (though not to the extent of giving her a black eye!) and if you are tied down somewhere, remember to try and see what she is doing, look at her face and follow her with your head and eyes.

If she is humiliating you, then you need to look humiliated with your head drooping.

Where doms are concerned, you need to stand and move in ways that look dominant, seize the submissive by the hair, grab his face or arm, push him around physically, rest your boots on his body.

Whether you are in a sub or a dom role, remember not to look at the camera or at the director while you are being filmed.

When you come to the end of a particular scene, stop acting but stay looking at whatever (or whoever) it was you were last looking at.

This will help when it comes to editing the film. Do not turn to the director to indicate that you have finished or to ask them whether it was ok.

If the camera is on you in close up, it is important to resist looking into the lens, if you need to look somewhere other than at one of the actors, then look past the camera, never look into the lens.

You will be given a copy of the script before you audition for the part. This will help you decide whether you want to audition for the role and you will be able to read through it and learn any lines and get a feeling for the plot.

We will have a rehearsal about a week before the shoot. Its fine to suggest ideas if you think there is something you can do which will contribute to the action.

An example of this is can be seen in The Cuckold, when Master Steel (who is a very experienced actor in BDSM films) gives the male sub (Tara) a kick to help him in the direction where he is to go, and later on in the same film, puts his feet on Tara.

Another important thing to remember is to make suitable noises during the shoot (these will be marked in on the script) but you need to practice making the appropriate sounds.

Pleasure noises need to be elongated sounds, mmmmmmms, ahhhhhhs, and sighs.

Pain noises are shorter ahh, arggh, owww.

Practicing the noises means you will feel less inhibited about doing this on set, and it will also sound more natural.

Its also very important to be on time. Making films is expensive and you do not want to keep everyone else waiting.

It is also important to remember to bring the appropriate clothing with you.

If you have a particular fetish, we will make a note of it and then contact you if we have a film theme which requires this.

However the more rigid your requirements the less likely it is that we will be able to accommodate them.

Finally pay in BDSM films varies from nothing at all, to a few hundred pounds (depending on what is required).

This is because all BDSM films are made on a shoe string budget so payments to actors aren’t exactly at porn star levels.
